Mosherville, West Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada,

is the ancestral home of James and Lydia Mosher who arrived in Nova Scotia with their family in May 1760.


​Originating from Newport, Rhode Island. They were part of the New England Planter migration where along with other families and the early development of the Newport Landing (now Avondale) Township. Planters were allocated land grants and this is where the Mosher family thrived and its descendants were instrumental in the Shipbuilding, Carpentry and  Blacksmith trades. 

James Mosher was a Millwright.


While there may be a few Mosher descendants still living in the area, many descendants of James and Lydias children come to Mosherville from all over the world to have a photo with this particular sign.


Mosherville is mentioned in poem, "The Mosherville Road" by Canadian Poet, Journalist, Novelist and local, Alden Nowlan, who died in 1983. Alden grew up in nearby Stanley and is a Mosher descendant through James and Lydia's daughter Sarah (1754-1816) who married James Campbell (1750-1833).
