This is the website for the descendants of James Mosher and his wife Lydia Allen and their young children who arrived in Nova Scotia along with other New England Planter families in May 1760.
James Mosher was born on 12 July 1725 in Tiverton, Rhode Island, New England. He was the only son of Nicholas Mosher (1 Jan 1703-1765), a grandson of Rev Hugh Mosher (1633-1713).
James mother has always been disputed as Dorothy (Dorothy) Potter, a daughter of Stokes Potter. Nicholas and Dorothy did not marry but Nicholas did marry Rebecca Wilcox and had other children who remained in New England. This website only deals with James and his line with Lydia Allen (1729-1772), daughter of Increase Allen Jr (1694-1771) and Lydia Allen (1700-1772). The Mosher line that we descend from are known as "The English Moshers" as they descend from Cucklington, England from the 1600's and arrived in New England with thousands of others in what was known as The Great Migration.
James and Lydia married in Dartmouth, Massachusetts on 28 October 1748. Their children Amy born 13 February 1749, Barzillai born 1751, Olive born 1753, Lydia born 1754, Sarah born 1754, Jehu born 1755 and Allen born 1758, came on the sloop "Lydia" in 1760. Their daughter Deliverance was born in Avondale, Nova Scotia in 1760. Other children were born after the arrival and all children feature under the drop down at the top menu James and Lydia.
There is another Mosher line that is often confused with James and Lydia Moshers line. This Mosher (Moser) line arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1751. Hans Jacob Moser and his descendants came directly from Germany and are referred to as the German Palatines. The County Palatine of the Rhine was a territory in the Holy Roman Empire. The fragmented territory included Alsace and Lorraine, where our Mosher origins lived prior to going to England in 1600. We most likely came from the same roots. The Hans Jacob Mosher line settled in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
